The turbulent life and times of John Williams, who rose to become Lord Keeper of the Great Seal, Archbishop of York, and advisor to James I. Falling from these heights, his later life was spent in north Wales as professional soldier and preacher, maintaining his extensive estates and position in the face of Cromwellian advances; he is buried in Llandegai churchyard.
