πŸ”§ Maintenance and Improvements

We will carry out essential maintenance between 2 and 17 January to the start of the year. While some areas will be temporarily closed, these updates will improve the visitor experience for the months and years ahead.

🎭 Special Events to Welcome 2025

  • Basket Weaving Workshop: Join us in January for hands-on creative experience. Perfect for beginners and enthusiasts alike. Book HERE
  • Storiel Sessions – Live musical performance by Osgled: After the huge success of 2004 with music in the masonic galleries Storiel is privileged to invite Bethan Ruth to perform in February. Osgled has already garnered acclaim with performances at Ceredigion Museum and is privileged to showcase the incredible new talent at Gwynedd Museum. Book HERE
  • Bangor Celebrations 1500 – Resurrection: As part of the City of Bangor celebrations join us on St Folant’s day to Celebrate this historic milestone with a live performance at Bangor Cathedral accompanied by Arfon Wyn , Llewelyn’s Nest on the exciting folk rock band Ofergoelus. Book HERE
  • Watercolour Workshop with David Weaver: Come along to an exciting watercolour class that combines personal aspirations with technical skills. Learn how to create work that reflects your value system and priorities, using watercolour as an expressive medium. Still life will be available as a potential topic, but feel free to bring any items you’d like to use for inspiration. Bring all your own materials, please. Group and individual training will be provided to suit all participants. All levels of experience and abilities are welcome. Book HERE
  • Celebrating the Doctor recalls Hywel Ffiaidd : On March the First go Ffiaidd ! Don’t miss this fascinating conversation that will deal with one of the most controversial characters in Welsh music. Dr Hywel Ffiaidd . With contributions from the Doctor his elder Dyfed Thomas and the band’s manager (and musician) Mici Plwm this will be an afternoon to remember. Book HERE
  • Nintendo North Wales: As part of a monthly programme, we are privileged to welcome the Nintendo North Wales movement back to Storiel for a day of co-playing and co-working two of Nintendo’s best-known games. Book HERE

πŸ–ΌοΈ February Exhibitions: A New Beginning

A New Beginning From February 1st, Storiel will host an exciting range of exhibitions:

  • 140 years of Art Collection- Bangor University: Explore creative work from Bangor University’s art collection, on view until April 5th.
  • Open Art 2025: Local creativity in the dynamic community exhibition, which runs until March 29th.
  • Behind the Scenes: Schools project with Oriel Glyn y Weddw, which responds creatively to Amgueddfa Cymru’s art collections.

These exhibitions highlight the rich artistic and cultural life of North Wales and are open to all.

  • In the cafΓ© – Dwdls Cymraeg by Oliver Turnbull: Original illustrations from the book ‘Dwdls Cymraeg’ which presents a unique method to learn Welsh words in a fun way. 

More than Exhibitions. Storiel is a space for the whole community. Find unique items in the Cabinet  of Curiosities, enjoy a coffee surrounded by artwork on the cafΓ© wall, or visit local history and contemporary art in our galleries. Storiel offers something for every visitor.

🌞 What Happens Later in 2025:

  • Exhibition of work by Shani Rhys James and Stephen West in April
  • The story of the  Welsh Women’s Peace Petition and in the community gallery,  an Escape from Gardens  project looking at invasive species, with North Wales Wildlife Trust
  • Summer highlights will be an exhibition of Bert Isaac ‘s art from Aberystwyth University’s collection and an exhibition of the work of a number of artists who spent residency on Bardsey Island in 2024.
  • There will be a significant exhibition of works by Iwan Bala in the Autumn, as well as print work by Marian Haf.
