From exhibitions that sparked conversation to workshops that nurtured creativity, every moment has made Storiel a vibrant hub for art, culture, and community.

Here’s a detailed look back at the highlights of 2024 and a preview of the exciting plans ahead for 2025.

🎨🌟 A Year of Artistic Flourishes

January to April:
The year started strong with workshops designed to engage and inspire creativity. Participants enjoyed crafting experiences like the Crochet Workshop and Pressed Flowers, creating art in a warm and welcoming environment. The Living Seas exhibition captivated audiences, taking them on an underwater journey that highlighted the beauty of marine ecosystems and the importance of conservation.

The North Wales Society of Fine Art’s showcase celebrated the talents of local artists with stunning works that explored landscapes, wildlife, and botany. Meanwhile, Dr. DeAnn Bell’s LGBTQ+ Interpretations lecture brought inclusivity to the forefront, sparking meaningful conversations around art and identity.

The St. David’s Day Parade in Bangor celebrated Welsh culture with vibrancy and pride, while Huw Jones’ coastal-inspired art and creative workshops—like Gelli Plate Printing and Yarn Spinning—provided hands-on experiences for participants of all ages. The Friends of Storiel Lecture series and fanzine-making workshops added depth and variety to an already dynamic spring.

May to August:
As spring turned to summer, Storiel became a hive of activity. Workshops such as bookbinding, willow weaving, and wild art for children fostered creativity across generations. The Moss Garden exhibition captivated visitors with its focus on the unique ecological heritage of the region, while Ieuan Wyn’s lecture, The Mountains Speak, provided further insight into Wales’ natural beauty.

Summer highlights included the Storiel Sessions, where artists shared their creative processes, fostering connections between creators and audiences. The Gyotaku Fish Printing Workshop introduced participants to a traditional Japanese art form, while exhibitions like Rhodri Jones’ Cofio and Christine Mills’ solo show celebrated personal and cultural narratives. Gaming enthusiasts gathered for Nintendo North Wales meet-ups, adding a modern twist to Storiel’s offerings.

September to December:
Autumn and winter were equally vibrant, with events and exhibitions catering to diverse interests. The Halloween Puppet Workshop and Totally Chaotic History Museum Trail provided family-friendly fun, while Jac Jones’ Between the Lines exhibition explored the intersection of literature and art.

The Christmas Weaving Workshop brought festive cheer, offering visitors the chance to create meaningful gifts and decorations. Performances by the Awen Ensemble, Tristwch y Fenywod and other talented artists brought warmth to winter afternoons, creating unforgettable moments for attendees. Exhibitions like Catrin Williams’ Belonging rounded out a year of artistic excellence.
