BLAS Pontio presents a project that has captured the wonderful community of Hirael, with support from Storiel. Gwion Aled Williams and photographer Iolo Penri, have visited Hirael numerous times over the past year, getting a glimpse of the community and the people who live there. There will now be an opportunity to see how they have captured the community of Hirael in 2024 in an exhibition in Storiel.
The exhibition takes inspiration from Sibols: Plentyndod Hirael 1900-1930 and Hirael, North Wales 1976 by Garry Stuart, that have documented photographs of Hirael at the beginning of the twentieth century and the 1970s. Gwion has interviewed many characters from Hirael over the past year, creating a short film of the interviews – recording their memories and personal experiences of living in Hirael – some their whole lives. Iolo Penri’s photography which captures some of the characters and places of Hirael will be on display, alongside the film and some archival photographs. Together, they capture the spirit of community in Hirael.
