GIPH Making Workshop with Sioned Young

21st August (various times)

The upcoming digital design event at Storiel, featuring Sioned Young, the founder of Mwydro, promises to be an engaging and educational experience for all attendees. This workshop is not just about learning the technical skills of digital design but also about embracing the cultural significance of Welsh place names in the digital realm.

Participants will have the unique opportunity to create a GIF that represents a local place name, thereby combining creativity with cultural education. Moreover, the event underscores the importance of preserving local languages and traditions within modern digital expressions, ensuring that they continue to be a part of the collective memory and identity. This workshop is a testament to the innovative spirit of Welsh digital arts and the community’s commitment to its cultural roots. It’s an invitation to explore the intersection of technology and tradition, and to contribute to the vibrant tapestry of Welsh digital culture.

INOIS

31st August (ongoing)

INOIS AR AGOR, a new collaboration between the independent label INOIS and Storiel Gallery and Museum in Bangor, is a monthly event that opens the door to the creative process, providing an open studio space for artists and young people. Once a month, the Storiel café welcomes everyone for an afternoon as INOIS takes over, offering a chance to create, discuss, and learn.

INOIS brings studio equipment and invites artists to work on their music, but the door is also wide open for anyone who wants to work on their art, have a cuppa, or just take a look at all the excitement happening. This initiative is shaped by the people who show up each month and are driven by their aspirations. What will be created is a mystery—perhaps a new album, a new artist, or maybe just a conversation that inspires a young person to pursue their creative ideas. These sessions are an opportunity to share, listen, create, and most importantly, provide a space that is open to everyone. The collaborative nature of INOIS AR AGOR fosters a community environment where culture and creativity can flourish, making it a unique and valuable addition to the local arts scene.
